Getting Ghosted by a Client

149: Getting Ghosted by a Client

Getting ghosted sucks! But it happens to all of us so I want to talk through what you can do when a client stops communicating with you before working together, while you are in the middle of a project, and even after work on a project is complete.

In this episode, I share...

  • How to handle getting ghosted

  • Some reasons clients might ghost you

  • Ways to protect yourself and your business

When you are ghosted, don’t panic and don’t act out of emotion. Take some time to evaluate the situation and determine where you are in the process of working with this person.

If you are ghosted before you even send a proposal, I would advise you to just let it go. This person was probably just looking for information so don’t take offense.

If someone ghosts you after you’ve had a call with them and have taken the time to send a proposal, it is typically a financial reason why they decide not to respond to you.

Another time clients will ghost you is after the proposal has been signed and a deposit has been made. This can be confusing, but you never really know what other people are going through. Just try to keep communication open on your end and move forward as best as you can.

Sometimes clients will ghost you after work has been done and they owe you money. At this point you may need to get an attorney involved to help make sure that you and your business are protected.

And there are times when a client will ghost you after the project is completed and they’ve paid, but they never give you feedback or confirm that they are ready to launch. This is another really frustrating situation but you have to remember that you really don’t know what is going on with them on their end.

Ultimately, try not to take it personally. Stay positive and remember that someone ghosting you probably has nothing to do with you.
