Prepping your Business for the Holidays

141: Prepping your Business for the Holidays

Today I’m talking about prepping your business for the upcoming holiday season.

In the online world we sometimes think we don’t need to prepare because we work from home anyway. But when you’re not prepared it allows chaos and franticness to set in, and there is already enough of that in the holiday season!

In this episode, I share...

  • How to ensure you take the vacation time you want

  • Little ways to enjoy the season in your day-to-day routine

  • Tips to make taking time off easier

First of all, figure out what days you want off and make sure they’re blocked off your calendar. And when you take days off, TAKE THEM OFF. Don’t miss being present with your family to get ahead on work (unless you want to.) Be very honest with yourself and what that looks like for you. But, make a commitment and stick with it, regardless. If you do decide to check in with work, set very clear boundaries on what this looks like.

Be sure you take time to enjoy the season! Think of the basics: sight, sound, scents. Light some candles, eat some treats, put food in the slow cooker when you’re working from home. The holidays are seen as such a magical time for kids – how can we bring that into adulthood?

Set a holiday responder, and if (and only if) it makes you feel more at peace, you can put your personal number on it so you don’t feel the need to check your email at all.

Another thing I like to do is take a buffer day off before and after vacation time.  You’ll feel a lot better knowing you were able to have a clear head the day before and the day after returning instead of jumping right back into work.

And finally, RELAX. Know that most people expect you to be off for the holidays a bit. These are memories you’ll never get back. Losing my father has made me SO SENTIMENTAL with these things and I’ve learned how important it is to be fully present.

Remember, nothing is an emergency in an online business world. Truly. We are not doing brain surgery. Relaxing is something that gets easier as you practice it, so start practicing!
