My Tips for Home Buying as an Entrepreneur

153: My Tips for Home Buying as an Entrepreneur

I have purchased a house and moved several times over the past few years. I know the home buying process can be a little intimidating as an entrepreneur, so I wanted to share my tips today.

In this episode, I share...

  • What you should do before you plan to buy

  • How to find who you need to work with

  • Things you should get in order to make your life easier

Before you do anything, make sure you get pre-approved and find a good mortgage lender. You’ll also want to find a good realtor. Ask lots of questions about what they will and will not do to understand their process and if it is a good fit for you.

Be realistic with your “must haves.” Finding the perfect home with everything you want can be difficult. So have realistic expectations as you look.

You’ll also want to budget for a house you can afford. You can get pre-approved for something more expensive than what you can realistically afford so watch out for that.

Understand that you do not have to put 20% down. You can and it can save you some fees, but you don’t have to, so run some numbers to see what really works best for you.

And start decluttering and organizing things as soon as you know you’re planning to move! This will really help the moving process.

As for your finances, make sure your books are organized and up to date. You’ll also want to check your credit score and know where you stand there.

Purchasing a home as an entrepreneur is very possible and you can set yourself up for success by following this advice. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me!
